Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation has two positions available for Education Assistants. Under the direct supervision of the School Principal and working directly with the teacher(s), the Educational Assistants will assist their assigned student with lessons, classwork and routines to their student on a one-to-one basis.  They will assist the student with following the class schedule daily and assist with the implementation of the annual long-range academic plans. Any issues or absences must be reported directly to the school and NAN Education Director via email.


  • Assisting students individually and while in groups in completing teacher prepared lessons and routines;
  • Assist with supervision of the student in classroom as well as outdoor supervision;
  • Monitor student progress and identify problematic areas;
  • Liaison with parents/guardians, professional staff, and other agencies;
  • Encourage positive role model behaviour designed to instill pride, self-esteem and cultural identity for Anishinaabe students.

  • Minimum of a grade twelve diploma or equivalent certification;
  • Classroom Assistant Certificate/ Early Childhood Diploma/Social Services Diploma preferred and/or commitment to obtain;
  • 1year related work experience or college experience would be an asset;
  • Strong Communication, English, and Mathematical skills;
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe language, culture, and traditions;
  • Tuberculin test required;
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Ability to manage a reasonable workload; effective priority-setting and follow-up;
  • Be a role model in carrying out the vision and mission statement of the Anishinaabe Nation;
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain appropriate working rapport with others;
  • Possess the ability to deal with conflict, mediate, and problem solve;
  • Must be punctual, and maintain consistent attendance for the job;
  • Must be physically capable and able to perform duties and tasks;
  • Have a valid driver’s license, access to an insured vehicle, and willingness to travel;
