Investing in economic development in Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation
Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation) April 15, 2019 – The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, joined Chief Lorraine Cobiness, to announce a $1 million investment for the construction of a multi-purpose facility for Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation (Dalles First Nation).
“Economic development is a priority throughout Northwestern Ontario, including First Nations throughout the riding,” stated Nault. “Ensuring community members have access to training and business development services is an important factor in securing the economic future of the First Nation.”
The multi-purpose facility will include a 5,000 square-foot space which will act as a hub for economic development. The hub portion of the facility will include an economic development centre, which would provide training and development opportunities to the area’s Indigenous Economic Development Officers, a Business Development Centre, with spaces for lease for Indigenous agencies and business, and a training and conference centre, to develop workforce skills and life skills needed for long-term employment, that would also be available to hold conferences and meetings.
“This hub will provide leasable spaces for Indigenous businesses and agencies, improved access to training, and the creation of new jobs, among other things,” concluded Nault. “I look forward to the completion of this project, and I am certain the members of Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation will enjoy the positive outcomes of the multi-purpose centre for years to come.”
