Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH) has seen an increase in the number of inpatients with COVID-19 over the past week. The facility currently has four people hospitalized with COVID-19, two of whom who were admitted due to severe symptoms of the virus.

“This serves as a reminder to the public of how serious a COVID-19 infection can be. All prevention measures must continue to be followed by residents of the Kenora area to prevent our health care system from becoming overwhelmed,” says Ray Racette at LWDH.

Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) urges the public to keep two (2) metres distance from anyone they do not live with. “Most of the recent cases of COVID-19 in our region have spread through informal gatherings. By following public health measures and not getting together with those outside of your household, we can prevent spreading the COVID-19 virus,” explains Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health at NWHU. In addition, Dr. Young Hoon reminds the public to continue practicing good hand hygiene, staying home when ill, and wearing masks when in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
