Bimose Tribal Council has received notification that an individual associated with the Tribal Council has tested positive for COVID-19. Bimose Tribal Council is working with the Northwestern Health Unit to make sure that all potential risks are minimized and are providing all the information that is required for them to conduct their investigation.

Public health is identifying those who would be considered “close contacts” (high-risk contacts) of the individual with COVID-19. Public health nurses are following up with each and every individual or family identified as a close contact and these individuals and families are being provided specific instructions and guidance. All individuals identified as close contacts will be isolating at home and will not be returning to work until advised that they can do so by public health. The Northwestern Health Unit will continue to follow up with affected individuals to provide ongoing information and support.

At this time, everyone else in the main office who is not specifically contacted by the Northwestern Health Unit would be considered at low risk and does not require testing because of this situation. Bimose Tribal Council’s staff should use the Bimose Tribal Council’s screening tool when attending the office and ensure that masks are worn when away from their desks or interacting with other staff. Bimose Tribal Council, like other organizations, has implemented significant measures to reduce the risk of spread of the COVID-19 virus within the office setting. Further information will be provided to the staff and communities if needed in the coming days. For reasons of privacy, we will minimize the sharing of personal information about any case and strongly encourage others to avoid identifying individuals. We have put into place strong infection prevention and control strategies and are confident that these measures have been effective.”

As a precaution our Daycare will also be closed from November 23-27, 2020 and Bimose Community High School will also have remote learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
